I am working as an Engineering Manager.
I am working as a Technical Lead.
I am working as a Senior Software Engineer.
I am working as a Principal Engineer.
And so on…
People proudly say during interviews when they are asked the very basic question of the interview, “Please tell me about yourself.”
Do you think this is the right answer to this question?
No, this answer is not correct. It’s a wrong answer. “Tell me about yourself” does not mean the interviewer is asking for your job title. The interviewer just wants to know who you are as a human being. Most people make this mistake. But it’s okay, you gave a chance to the interviewer to go deeper into your role. Now, he/she can start asking questions about your responsibilities.
What are your roles and responsibilities in your current job?
You start answering, “I arrive at the office at 11:00 AM and have a scrum meeting with my team members. Then I attend meetings. After that, I take my lunch. I ask my team members if they need any help and then leave the office.”
Isn’t this the answer the interviewer was expecting from you?
Again, the interviewer thinks, “Let’s ask a technical question.” I have to migrate an existing system into a microservice-based architecture. How would you do that if I asked you to do it?
I have over 12+ years of experience, but I haven’t had the chance to work on microservices. However, I am confident that I can do it.
How?
Because I am hardworking, responsible, and dedicated to my job.
Thank you so much for your time. The HR will let you know the next steps and the interviewer end the interview call.
This is the situation for Engineering Managers, Technical Leads, Senior Software Engineers, and Principal Engineers these days.
Who is responsible?
No one other than themselves with various reasons:
👉 Stopped learning to grow.
👉 Stuck in the same organization for a long time.
👉 Organizations play games by giving them titles to prevent them from leaving.
👉 Hesitant to invest in their self-learning.
What’s the solution?
The C@C Advance Blueprint.
