How many times do you need expert advice?
Many times we need expert advice, but there are a few special occasions when we badly need it.
After completing 10th grade, there are some students who are clear about what they want to become in their life, but most students need expert advice.
After completing 12th grade, most students again need expert advice on what they should do.
Then, after completing their degrees like B.Tech, MCA, or BCA, they need expert advice on what to do next.
After 10 years of experience, once again, they badly need expert advice on what to do.
Do you know why?
After 10 years of experience, when you start handling a team, you might fall into a comfort zone, and your skills become paralyzed. You start losing confidence because you are no longer hands-on in coding. After 15 years of experience, you may find that you are not good at management skills because you are not an MBA, and your technical skills have deteriorated due to lack of interest in programming. Now, coding becomes a matter of ego.
At this stage, you badly need expert advice; otherwise, your career is at risk, my friend. This is the stage when we hesitate to take advice due to our ego, thinking we know everything because of our extensive experience. You are thinking wrong, my friend. Please set aside your ego and seek expert advice.
What should you do?
If you are at this stage, you have two choices, my friend.
First, either you can return to the technical side, for which you need to go back to your previous coding days, setting aside your ego. Becoming a Solutions Architect is the first step to becoming a good CTO. For that, you need to start learning new technologies, tools, and leadership skills.
Second, if you are bored with programming, you can move to the non-technical side, like project management. For that, you need to learn everything related to project management like presentation skills, excel, word, documentation including agile methodologies. You may also need certification in PMP (Project Management Program).
If you love coding and being hands-on, choosing the first path is good for you. If you are genuinely interested in becoming a CTO, then becoming a Solutions Architect is the first step.
