an Unstoppable Mindset
and
an Unbreakable Personality”
Just adding years to your experience or resume doesn’t work. You have to grow both horizontally and vertically. However, people often don’t grow in either direction. They remain in the same place they started 10-12 years ago or they just moved a little bit. Just read to the conversation below, and you will understand what this post is all about.
Interviewer: How many years of experience do you have?
Interviewee: I have 15 years of experience.
Interviewer: That’s fantastic. What kind of position are you looking for?
Interviewee: I am looking for a senior role.
Interviewer: How big of a team can you handle?
Interviewee: I haven’t handled a team yet, but I am confident I can handle one.
Interviewer: Have you set up any new processes or developed new strategies in your previous organization?
Interviewee: No, I didn’t get a chance to do that.
Interviewer: Okay, do you have any experience with the deployment process?
Interviewee: No, there was a separate team for that, so I didn’t get the opportunity to work on it.
Interviewer: Okay, then please tell me what you can do in the senior role you are looking for.
What do you understand from this conversation?
This conversation clearly shows that the person has been stuck in coding for a long time, even for the role of a senior software engineer. This happens with most people. After getting a job, they think their life is set and they enter a comfort zone. After 14-15 years, when they meet their colleagues or peer groups, they realize they are underpaid or not getting what they deserve. That’s the reality, my friend.
How many years of experience do you have. It doesn’t matter at all.
What matters is how knowledgeable you are and what you have learned in the last 14-15 years. Maybe you are a good coder. I am not denying that, but coding itself is not sufficient, especially in India. Yes, outside of India, people remain in coding for 30-40 years. But the mentality in India is that after 10 years of experience, you must be an all-rounder. It doesn’t matter how good a coder you are; they will not pay you what you deserve like out side of India.
To get what you deserve based on your experience, you have to upskill yourself. Apart from coding, you must know DevOps operations, system design concepts, and be well-versed with Jenkins, Docker, Ansible, Kubernetes, and cloud operations. You must be aware of new technologies and trends. You must understand all the operations an organization needs, such as setting up new processes like hiring, appraisals, and deployment. Obviously, you must also be able to handle a team as well.
If you are someone who feels stuck and doesn’t know how to get out of it, I can help you. Along with technical skills, I can help you develop a growth mindset, an unstoppable attitude, and an unbreakable personality in just 90 days with my program, “How to Become an Unstoppable Mindset and Unbreakable Personality.”
